Hey everyone! I’m Kaitlin, and if you’re here on this page I bet you’re wondering a little about who we are and how we got started in this crazy world of farming. Well, follow along and I’ll let you know how we got here!
It all started back in 1925 with a couple of Ukranian immigrants that decided to give farming in the USA a go. Yadda yadda yadda, fast forward a hundred years and the fifth generation of Farbotnik’s are growing up on that same farm developing an appreciation for the land and learning a thing or two about farming.
When I was eighteen, I packed my life into two duffle bags and headed out west to spend the next five years in Wyoming with the hopes of returning home and taking over the farm one day. It took me another three years before I made it back to the farm and another four years after that before I started our 100% grass-fed beef and pastured pork and poultry operation. I learned that I had a lot more to learn about farming and I take the opportunities that come every day to keep on learning.
I strongly believe all life starts and ends in the soil. We transitioned to a grass-based system with our current adaptive management strategies for a number of reasons, but mainly to offer our animals the healthiest lifestyle we could manage and most importantly, to preserve and restore the soil on our farm. Allowing future generations the opportunity to have the same experiences and appreciation for the landscape, water, animals, and soil is an important part of our heritage.
Now just like you, we are a busy family! One of the great things about having a farm is that I also love to cook. Sometimes finding the time to make delicious AND healthy meals was a struggle.
One of the greatest benefits I noticed when we switched to a 100% grass fed beef and pastured pork and pastured poultry operation I realized I didn’t need to spend so much time trying to make dinners taste good – the quality of the meat we raise is evident in the flavor. Our customers always say after serving our products to their families they feel healthier and more nourished, and we couldn’t agree more.
And bonus – grass fed beef cooks up about 30% quicker so I can get meals on the table faster!
Everyone in our family are animal lovers, as are pretty much all our customers. It is important to us that our animals are raised patiently with consideration of their genetic advantages and disadvantages rather than trying to alter their natural growth and health with hormones, steroids, and unnecessary antibiotics. From the beginning of their life to the end, our animals are cared for and loved, even that one cow that’s always causing problems but has such a cute face and personality we can’t help but love her – yeah we’re talking about the infamous Fudgie!
We love chatting about our animals and how we raise them so feel free to ask any question that you have about our farm.
